IndiGo, India’s largest airline, operates a complex flight network in a challenging environment, with over 1,600 daily flights to 74 domestic and 25 international destinations and more than 280+ aircraft. Recent rapid growth in operations prompted them to search for new digital tools to maximize efficiency and performance in their daily operations.
“We identified the need for optimized solutions that could help us to manage our operations more efficiently and execute better recovery decisions,” says Tarun Vijh, Director of IndiGo’s Operations Control Center (OCC). “After thorough evaluation, Boeing’s Jeppesen solutions were the clear choice to elevate our day of operation performance.”
In September 2021, IndiGo introduced Jeppesen Ops Control marking a significant milestone in modernizing their OCC. Ops Control has become the heart of IndiGo’s operations, enabling them to proactively manage their flight and aircraft schedule on the day of operation. The solution’s features, like Alert Monitor and Management by Exception, are helping the carrier manage disruptions by enabling Ops Controllers to quickly evaluate issues and make timely decisions. When seconds count, this tool was able to trim the time it takes for IndiGo to create a flight from 80 seconds to 20 seconds.
“We have recognized substantial speed and performance improvements and also reduced our dependency on 15 in-house applications since implementing Jeppesen Ops Control in our operations,” says Deepak Lamba, Associate Director of IndiGo’s OCC. “The collaboration between IndiGo and Boeing was essential to deliver JOC in the midst of the pandemic and ahead of the difficult fog season in India.”
IndiGo is also in the process of implementing Jeppesen Tail Assignment to further enhance their OCC. Tail Assignment will enable the carrier to transition away from a complicated, manual process of assigning aircraft to an optimized, automatic solution while managing their complex fleet and a myriad of restrictions, such as Extended-range Twin-engine Operations Performance Standards (ETOPS) and Minimum Equipment Lists or MELs.
“IndiGo has been an ideal partner and we are pleased that we are able to provide our valuable solutions to benefit their operation,” says Anders Bohlin, Boeing’s JOC Product Manager.
