Boeing and Virgin Atlantic today announced an agreement to support the modification of the cabin interiors of Virgin Atlantic’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner fleet. The updates are part of Virgin Atlantic’s cabin redesign initiative to meet demand for premium cabins.

  • The reimagined fleet will see both the Upper Class and Premium cabins increase in size, offering 44 Upper Class seats and 56 Premium seats (up from 31 and 35, respectively).
  • For the first time, the Retreat Suite will be introduced to the 787-9, with eight seats available in every Upper Class cabin.
  • The Economy cabin will reduce from 192 to 127 seats featuring existing Economy Delight, Classic and Light products.

“This investment in our Boeing 787-9 fleet is an important step in delivering a consistent, premium experience across our long-haul network. By increasing the number of Upper Class and Premium seats and introducing our Retreat Suite for the first time on the 787-9, we’re responding to growing demand for premium travel,” said Matt Sharp, Virgin Atlantic, vice president Engineering and Maintenance. “In partnership with Boeing, we’re reimagining the customer journey from take-off to landing, bringing our signature style, comfort and thoughtful design to more of our customers.”

“We’re proud to partner with Virgin Atlantic on this exciting cabin transformation,” said Lindsey Douglas, Boeing vice president of Cabin, Modifications, Maintenance & Digital Services. “Our engineering expertise will help bring their vision to life, delivering an elevated passenger experience that will set a new standard for years to come.”

Boeing will provide part kits and engineering support to ensure a smooth retrofit process that meets Virgin Atlantic’s high standards for quality and innovation.
